How does sensorless motor control work?

BridgeSwitch uses advanced sensorless control algorithms to drive BLDC motors without Hall position sensors: 1) Back-EMF sensing - detects rotor position by monitoring voltage across unexcited phase, 2) Zero-crossing detection - identifies commutation points from back-EMF zero crossings, 3) Phase-locked loop - maintains synchronization with rotor position, 4) Start-up sequence - open-loop start transitions to closed-loop sensorless operation. This approach eliminates Hall sensors and wiring, reducing cost and improving reliability. The control algorithm is implemented in the external MCU with BridgeSwitch providing the power stage and phase voltage feedback.
