How do I select the right Hall effect sensor for my application?

Selecting the right Hall effect sensor involves several key considerations: (1) Sensor Type - Unipolar (responds to one magnetic pole), Bipolar (responds to both poles with opposite output), or Omnipolar (responds to either pole with same output)

(2) Output Type - Digital (switch) or Analog (proportional to magnetic field strength)

(3) Operating Voltage - Ensure compatibility with your system voltage (typically 3.3V or 5V)

(4) Magnetic Sensitivity - Measured in mT (millitesla), lower values indicate higher sensitivity

(5) Response Time - Critical for high-speed applications

(6) Temperature Range - AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive (-40°C to +150°C). For position sensing in automotive applications, I typically recommend omnipolar digital sensors for their versatility. For current sensing, dedicated Hall effect current sensors provide excellent isolation and accuracy.
