What certifications do Espressif modules include?

Can I use external antennas with Espressif modules?

Yes, many Espressif modules support external antennas: ESP32-WROOM-32U includes U. FL connector for external antenna. ESP32-WROVER-IB has IPEX connector and antenna diversity. ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U variant supports external antennas. Using external antennas can improve range by 3-6dB and allows antenna placement away from interference sources. However, using an external antenna not included in the original module certification may require additional testing. Always consult Espressif's antenna design guide for optimal performance.

What is the difference between WROOM and WROVER modules?

WROOM modules include SoC, flash, crystal, and PCB antenna in a compact package. WROVER modules add external PSRAM (Pseudo-Static RAM) for applications requiring more memory. WROVER modules are slightly larger (18x31.4mm vs 18x25.5mm) and include an IPEX antenna connector. Choose WROOM for standard IoT applications with 4MB flash. Choose WROVER when you need additional RAM for graphics, camera buffering, or complex data processing. Both offer the same Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.
