Select AC-DC module power level based on: 1) Calculate total load power consumption of all devices

2) Add 30-50% margin for reliable operation and future expansion

3) Consider inrush current and startup requirements

4) Account for temperature derating at high ambient temperatures

5) For continuous operation, select higher power level for better reliability. Aipu offers 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 30W, 50W, 100W, 150W options. Example: For 20W load with 40% margin, select 30W module. It's better to have excess capacity than to operate at maximum rating continuously.

Aipu AC-DC modules feature ultra-low standby power consumption, typically less than 0.1W (100mW) for 5W modules and less than 0.5W for higher power modules. Low standby power is critical for always-connected devices like IoT sensors, smart home products, and standby systems. It reduces energy waste, operating costs, and environmental impact. For battery-backed systems, low standby power extends backup time during power outages. The low standby power is achieved through advanced power management and burst-mode operation at light loads.

AC-DC module thermal management depends on power level and ambient temperature: 1) Low power modules (5W-15W) typically don't require heatsinks at room temperature

2) Higher power modules (30W+) may need heatsinks or forced air cooling

3) At elevated ambient temperatures (>50°C), power derating may be necessary

4) Ensure adequate air circulation around the module

5) Use copper pours on PCB for heat spreading

6) Keep module away from other heat sources. Most modules have built-in overtemperature protection that shuts down the output if internal temperature exceeds safe limits. For enclosed applications, consider thermal modeling and testing.

Low power modules need no heatsink at room temperature. Higher power or high temperature applications may require heatsinks or derating.
