ZLG Power Isolated DC-DC Converters

ZLG Power isolated DC-DC converters offer various isolation voltage levels: Standard isolation: 1500V DC (1 minute) for general industrial applications

High isolation: 3000V DC (1 minute) for medical equipment and high-voltage applications

Reinforced insulation: 3000V AC (1 minute) for safety-critical applications. The isolation voltage is tested at 60Hz with 1-minute duration per UL/EN standards. All isolation barriers use reinforced insulation with multiple layers of protection.

To calculate required power rating: Determine your load's maximum current draw at the required output voltage

Calculate power: P = Vout x Iout(max)

Add 20-30% derating margin for reliability: P_module = P_load / 0.7 to 0.8

Consider startup/inrush currents which may be 2-3x normal current

Account for temperature derating at high ambient temperatures. For example, a 5V output at 100mA load requires 0.5W, select 1W module with margin. Always check the datasheet derating curve for high-temperature operation.

ZLG Power isolated DC-DC converter efficiency varies by power level and topology: 1W modules: 70-80% typical efficiency

2W-3W modules: 75-82% typical

5W-10W modules: 80-86% typical

15W+ modules: 85-88% typical. Higher input voltages generally yield better efficiency than low-voltage inputs. Synchronous rectification in higher power modules improves efficiency by 3-5% compared to diode rectification. Efficiency curves are provided in datasheets showing performance across load range.

For battery-powered applications, prioritize high-efficiency modules. For AC-powered systems, efficiency is less critical but affects thermal design.

EMI minimization techniques for isolated converters: Input filtering - add ceramic capacitor (1-10uF) close to input pins

Output filtering - add low-ESR capacitor at output for noise reduction

Shielding - use copper planes or shields around the converter for radiated EMI

Layout - keep input/output traces short and away from sensitive circuits

Common mode choke - add on input for conducted EMI suppression

Grounding - connect isolation barrier to chassis ground through Y-capacitor if safety standards permit. ZLG Power modules are designed with internal EMI suppression, but external filtering may be needed for sensitive applications.

Most ZLG Power isolated converters are not designed for direct parallel operation due to output voltage tolerance differences causing current imbalance. For higher power requirements: Use a single higher-power module instead of paralleling

Some series support current sharing - check datasheet for parallel capability

For redundant operation, use OR-ing diodes to isolate outputs. Parallel operation without current sharing can cause one module to carry excessive current and overheat. Contact ZLG Power for custom parallel-capable designs if needed.
