Xilinx SoCs

Zynq-7000 and UltraScale+ MPSoC differ significantly: 1) Process - Zynq-7000 uses 28nm, MPSoC uses 16nm FinFET, 2) Processor - Zynq-7000 has dual Cortex-A9, MPSoC has quad Cortex-A53 plus dual Cortex-R5, 3) GPU - MPSoC includes Mali-400 MP2 GPU, 4) Video - MPSoC has dedicated video codec, 5) Security - MPSoC includes advanced security features. Zynq-7000 is cost-effective for basic embedded, MPSoC targets AI, vision, and high-performance applications.

Use Zynq-7000 for cost-sensitive embedded. Use MPSoC for AI, vision, and advanced processing.

Zynq PS-PL interfaces include: 1) AXI GP ports - general purpose, 32-bit, for register access, 2) AXI HP ports - high performance, 64-bit, with DMA support, 3) ACP port - accelerator coherency port, cache coherent, 4) Interrupts - PL to PS interrupts for event signaling, 5) Clocks - PL can generate clocks for PS peripherals. Use GP ports for control, HP ports for high-bandwidth data. ACP provides cache coherency for shared memory access.

Use HP ports for data-intensive applications. Use ACP for cache-coherent accelerator access.

Zynq supports multiple operating systems: 1) Linux - PetaLinux, Ubuntu, Debian via Xilinx support, 2) FreeRTOS - real-time OS for bare-metal applications, 3) VxWorks - commercial RTOS for aerospace/defense, 4) QNX - for automotive and safety-critical, 5) Bare-metal - direct register programming. Linux is most common for application processors. FreeRTOS runs on Cortex-R5 in MPSoC for real-time tasks.

Use Linux for complex applications. Use FreeRTOS on R5 for real-time requirements.

Zynq power consumption varies by device and utilization: 1) Zynq-7000 - 2-5W typical, up to 10W maximum, 2) UltraScale+ MPSoC - 5-15W typical, up to 25W maximum, 3) PS only - 1-3W for processor subsystem, 4) PL only - depends on FPGA utilization, 5) Power domains - independent control of PS and PL. Use Xilinx Power Estimator for accurate analysis. MPSoC has better power efficiency per performance.
