Selecting the appropriate accelerometer range depends on your application: (1) ±2g range - suitable for tilt sensing, screen rotation, and static orientation detection where high resolution is needed. (2) ±4g to ±8g range - ideal for general motion detection, activity tracking, and gaming applications. (3) ±16g range - required for shock detection, vibration monitoring, and high-impact applications. Consider both the maximum acceleration expected and the required resolution. Higher ranges provide better shock tolerance but lower resolution. For most consumer applications, ±4g or ±8g provides the best balance.

Analog MEMS sensors output a voltage proportional to the measured physical quantity, requiring external ADC for digital processing. Digital MEMS sensors include integrated ADC and communicate via I2C or SPI. Digital sensors offer: (1) Easier integration - no external ADC needed. (2) Better noise immunity - digital communication is less susceptible to interference. (3) Built-in features - often include FIFO buffers, interrupt generators, and self-test. (4) Lower system cost - reduced external component count. Analog sensors provide: (1) Lower latency - direct voltage output. (2) Higher bandwidth - no digital filtering delays. (3) Flexibility - custom signal processing possible. For most modern applications, digital sensors are preferred.

Choose digital sensors for new designs; analog sensors for specialized high-bandwidth applications.
