Lingxing IC Precision ADCs

Lingxing IC offers ADCs with various resolution options to meet different application needs: 12-14 bit ADCs for general-purpose applications where moderate precision is sufficient, such as basic monitoring and control systems. 16-18 bit ADCs for higher precision applications including industrial sensors and data acquisition. 20-24 bit ADCs for ultra-high precision applications like weigh scales, medical instrumentation, and scientific measurement. Higher resolution provides finer measurement steps and better dynamic range but typically comes with lower sampling rates. The effective resolution also depends on noise performance - a 24-bit ADC may have 20-22 effective bits in practice. Lingxing IC offers both Sigma-Delta and SAR ADC architectures, each suited for different applications: Sigma-Delta ADCs are best for: High resolution (16-24 bits) applications. DC and low-frequency signals (<1kHz). Applications requiring excellent noise performance. When built-in filtering is beneficial. Examples: weigh scales, temperature sensors, precision voltage measurement. SAR ADCs are best for: Medium resolution (12-18 bits) applications. Higher sampling rates (up to several MSPS). Multiplexed multi-channel applications. Control loops requiring low latency. Examples: data acquisition, motor control, power monitoring. Key differences: Sigma-Delta has higher latency due to filtering, SAR has single-cycle conversion. Sigma-Delta excels at DC precision, SAR at AC performance. Sigma-Delta often includes PGA, SAR typically has wider input range. Consider your signal type, speed requirements, and channel count when selecting.

INL (Integral Non-Linearity) and DNL (Differential Non-Linearity) are key specifications that describe ADC accuracy: INL measures the maximum deviation of the actual transfer function from an ideal straight line. It is the overall linearity error across the full input range. Lower INL means better accuracy across the entire range. Typical values: ±1-2 LSB for good ADCs, ±0.5 LSB or better for precision ADCs. DNL measures the deviation of each code step from the ideal 1 LSB. It indicates missing codes or non-monotonic behavior. DNL must be less than ±1 LSB to guarantee no missing codes. Typical values: ±0.5-1 LSB for standard ADCs, ±0.3 LSB for precision ADCs. Why they matter: INL affects absolute accuracy and distortion. DNL affects resolution and monotonicity. Sampling rate (or sample rate) is a critical ADC specification that determines how frequently the analog input is converted to digital: Nyquist criterion: Sample rate must be at least 2x the highest frequency in your signal. Practical designs typically use 5-10x oversampling for better reconstruction. Sampling rate vs application: 1-100 SPS: Temperature, pressure, slow sensors. 100-1000 SPS: General industrial monitoring. 1k-100k SPS: Audio, vibration, control systems. >100k SPS: High-speed data acquisition, communications. Trade-offs: Higher sampling rates consume more power. Higher rates may reduce effective resolution (noise). Faster ADCs typically cost more. Consider: The bandwidth of your input signal.
