Firstack FAS-100 configurable gate driver ASIC for SiC and GaN devices. Features ±10A drive capability with 50ns prop...

Product Overview

Description

The Firstack FAS-100 is new class of intelligent gate driver ASICs designed specifically for wide bandgap power devices. This configurable ASIC combines the performance needed for SiC and GaN switching with the flexibility of digital control. The ±10A drive capability ensures fast switching transitions while the 50ns propagation delay minimizes dead time requirements.

The FAS-100 features programmable gate voltage levels supporting both SiC (+15V/-3V to -5V) and GaN (5V) requirements. Protection features include adjustable DESAT threshold, UVLO, and over-temperature protection. The digital interface enables real-time configuration changes, allowing adaptive gate drive optimization. The SOIC-16 package provides good thermal performance while maintaining compact size suitable for high-density designs.

"The FAS-100 is a versatile ASIC that I've successfully used in multiple SiC and GaN designs. The configurable gate voltage is key - I can use the same ASIC for both SiC inverters and GaN DC-DCs just by changing the configuration. The 50ns delay is genuine and consistent across temperature. Protection features work well - the DESAT caught a short in one automotive application before damage occurred. For high-frequency designs (>100kHz), this ASIC outperforms discrete solutions in both performance and board space. My recommendation: use the configuration interface to implement adaptive gate drive based on load current."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the configuration interface for FAS-100?

The FAS-100 uses a simple digital configuration interface with: Configuration pins - 4 pins for basic configuration (gate voltage, drive strength); Digital interface - I2C/SPI for advanced configuration; One-time programming - Configuration can be locked after setup; Default settings - Safe defaults for immediate operation. The FAS-CONFIG-USB programming tool provides easy Windows-based configuration. Configuration parameters include: gate voltage levels (+15V/-3V for SiC or 5V for GaN), drive strength (5A/10A), DESAT threshold, UVLO level, and protection response times.

How does FAS-100 handle SiC vs GaN device requirements?

The FAS-100 is designed to handle both SiC and GaN requirements through configuration: SiC Mode - Configurable for +15V/-3V to -5V gate drive, optimized for 15-20V gate voltage with negative turn-off for noise immunity. DESAT threshold set for SiC short-circuit protection; GaN Mode - 5V gate drive with tight voltage regulation critical for GaN. Enhanced dv/dt immunity for GaN's fast switching. The ASIC automatically adjusts protection thresholds and timing based on device type selection. This flexibility allows a single ASIC design to serve both device types.
