Sub-1GHz bands (315/433/868/915MHz) provide longer range and better penetration through walls, making them ideal for remote controls, security systems, and industrial sensors. 2.4GHz offers higher data rates and worldwide regulatory compliance but shorter range and more susceptibility to interference from WiFi and Bluetooth. Choose sub-1GHz for range and penetration, 2.4GHz for high data rates and global compatibility.

What is the typical communication range?

Communication range depends on frequency, output power, antenna design, and environment. Sub-1GHz with +10dBm output power typically achieves 100-500 meters line-of-sight and 30-100 meters indoors. 2.4GHz with 0dBm typically achieves 10-50 meters line-of-sight and 10-30 meters indoors. Higher output power and better antennas can extend range. Actual range should be validated in the target environment.
