What is gPV certification?

gPV (general Purpose Photovoltaic) per IEC 60269-7 is required for PV fuses. It indicates testing for DC interruption at PV voltages up to 1500V and ability to clear low overcurrents typical of PV faults. Standard fuses cannot safely interrupt PV circuits.

Always use gPV-certified fuses for PV applications.

How do I size solar string fuses?

Per NEC 690.9, size fuses at 1.56 x module Isc (short-circuit current). Example: 10A Isc module needs minimum 15.6A fuse, use 15A or 20A standard rating. This accounts for increased current at low temperatures.

Size at 1.56x string Isc. Round up to nearest standard rating.

What voltage rating do I need?

Match fuse voltage to system maximum voltage including Voc at lowest temperature. For 1000V systems, use 1000V fuses. For 1500V systems, use 1500V fuses. Account for temperature effects on Voc.
