What is the difference between Class J and Class RK fuses?

Class J fuses are space-efficient with 600V rating and excellent current limitation. Class RK fuses offer dual-element time-delay design for motor circuits with superior starting protection. Class RK1 provides highest current limitation, Class RK5 offers lower cost.

Use Class J for space savings. Use Class RK for motor circuits requiring time-delay.

What breaking capacity do I need for industrial panels?

Breaking capacity must exceed maximum prospective fault current. Calculate based on transformer kVA and impedance. Most industrial facilities need 100kA minimum, with larger systems requiring 200kA or higher. Bussmann offers fuses with breaking capacity up to 300kA.

Calculate fault current and add 25% margin when selecting breaking capacity.

Can Class J fuses replace Class RK fuses?

Class J fuses can replace Class RK fuses only if the voltage rating is adequate and the fuse block/holder is compatible. Class J fuses are smaller and require Class J mounting. Never substitute a higher ampere rating fuse.
