Aowei Module Systems

Aowei module systems are available in standard voltages ranging from 16V to 160V to match common system requirements. Standard offerings include: 16V modules (6 cells in series) for 12V automotive systems and low-voltage industrial applications

48V modules (18 cells) for telecom backup, mild hybrid vehicles, and industrial automation

96V modules (36 cells) for electric vehicle subsystems and larger industrial equipment

and 160V modules (60 cells) for heavy-duty EV applications and grid-scale energy storage. Custom voltages can be configured for volume applications. Each module includes the appropriate number of 2.7V cells in series with active balancing circuits. The module voltage should be selected based on your system voltage with appropriate margin for charge regulation. Higher voltage modules reduce current requirements for a given power level, reducing I²R losses in wiring.

Aowei modules employ active balancing circuits that continuously monitor and equalize individual cell voltages during both charge and discharge cycles. The balancing system uses switched capacitor or inductive transfer topologies to move charge from higher-voltage cells to lower-voltage cells. This prevents any single cell from exceeding its 2.7V rating while ensuring all cells reach full charge. Balancing current typically ranges from 50mA to 200mA depending on module size, sufficient to handle typical cell mismatch. The balancing circuit operates automatically without external control - simply apply charge voltage to the module terminals. LED indicators or communication interfaces (CAN, Modbus on select models) provide status indication. Active balancing significantly extends module life compared to passive resistor balancing by eliminating energy waste and providing faster, more effective equalization. The balancing system is powered by the module itself and requires no external power supply.

All Aowei modules include active balancing as standard. No additional balancing components are required for proper operation.

Aowei modules include comprehensive monitoring and protection features to ensure safe, reliable operation. Voltage monitoring tracks individual cell voltages and overall module voltage with overvoltage protection that disconnects the module if any cell exceeds 2.8V. Temperature monitoring uses multiple sensors to detect abnormal heating with thermal shutdown at 70°C. Current monitoring protects against overcurrent conditions with automatic reset. Communication interfaces (available on select models) provide real-time data via CAN bus or Modbus RTU including: individual cell voltages, module voltage, temperatures, state of charge estimation, and fault status. Mechanical protection includes rugged aluminum enclosures, vibration isolation, and IP54 or IP65 environmental sealing options. Safety features include pressure relief vents, internal fusing, and isolation monitoring for high-voltage modules. These integrated features reduce system design complexity and ensure safe operation.

Select modules with CAN/Modbus communication for systems requiring detailed monitoring. Basic modules include essential protection without communication.

Selecting the appropriate module capacitance requires calculating your energy and power requirements. First, determine the energy needed in watt-hours based on your load power and required backup time. Remember that usable energy is E = 1/2 × C × (V_max² - V_min²) where V_min is your system's minimum operating voltage. For example, a 16V module (6 cells) has V_max = 16.2V and if your system operates down to 12V, usable voltage is 4.2V. Module capacitance is related to cell capacitance by C_module = C_cell / n where n is the number of series cells. A 16V module using 100F cells has C_module = 100F/6 = 16.7F. Calculate required capacitance: C = 2 × E / (V_max² - V_min²). For 10 Wh usable energy in a 16V module: C = 2 × 36000 / (16.2² - 12²) = 72000 / 118 = 610F required. This would require a module with 610F × 6 = 3660F cell capacitance, achievable with parallel cell configurations.

Aowei modules include integrated thermal management but may require additional cooling depending on application duty cycle. The aluminum enclosure acts as a heat sink, dissipating heat generated in cell ESR during charge/discharge cycles. Modules are rated for natural convection cooling at specified continuous current ratings. For high-duty applications, forced air cooling using fans can increase continuous current capability by 30-50%. Mounting the module to a metal chassis or heat sink further improves thermal performance. Ambient temperature must be maintained within -20°C to +45°C for rated performance

extended temperature ranges are possible with derating. High-voltage modules (96V and above) include internal temperature monitoring with automatic current limiting at elevated temperatures.
