What are screw terminal capacitors used for?

Screw terminal capacitors are designed for very high-power applications requiring large capacitance values (10,000uF to 1,000,000uF) and extremely high ripple current capability (10A to 100A+). Common applications include industrial inverters, welding equipment, UPS systems, traction drives, and large motor drives. The screw terminals provide secure high-current connections.

Use screw terminal capacitors for applications above 500W, capacitance above 10,000uF, or ripple current above 10A.

What is the difference between ST, STH, and STL series?

ST series is the standard screw terminal capacitor for general industrial applications. STH series offers higher temperature ratings (up to 105C) for demanding environments. STL series provides extended lifetime ratings (up to 20,000 hours) for maintenance-free operation in critical applications.

Use ST series for standard industrial applications. Use STH for high-temperature environments. Use STL for long-lifetime requirements.

What ripple current can screw terminal capacitors handle?

Screw terminal capacitors offer very high ripple current capability ranging from 10A to over 100A depending on capacitance, voltage, and case size. The large case sizes and optimized internal design provide exceptional current handling for high-power applications.

What mounting options are available?

Screw terminal capacitors are available with various mounting options including base mounting with M8 or M12 bolts, clamp mounting for secure retention, and custom mounting brackets. The large case sizes (35mm to 90mm diameter) require proper mechanical support.

What is the typical lifetime?

Screw terminal capacitors offer long lifetime ratings from 2,000 to 20,000 hours depending on series and temperature. ST series: 2,000-5,000 hours at 85C. STH series: 5,000-10,000 hours at 105C. STL series: 10,000-20,000 hours at 105C. Lifetime extends significantly with proper derating.

For extended lifetime, select STL series and operate with voltage and temperature derating.
