"The LSP6206 is my first choice for powering sensitive analog circuits. The ultra-low noise and high PSRR make it ideal for ADC reference supplies and op-amp rails. I've used this in 16-bit and 24-bit ADC systems where power supply noise directly impacts performance. The dropout voltage is low enough for 3.3V to 2.5V conversion even at full load. The small package fits well in space-constrained designs."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PSRR and why is it important?

PSRR (Power Supply Rejection Ratio) measures how well the LDO rejects noise and ripple on the input power supply. A higher PSRR means less noise from the input passes through to the output. This is critical when the input supply has switching noise (from a buck converter) or when powering sensitive analog circuits. The LSP6206's 80dB PSRR at 1kHz means input noise is attenuated by 10,000x at that frequency.

High PSRR is critical when input has switching noise or when powering sensitive circuits.

What output capacitor should I use with LSP6206?

The LSP6206 is stable with ceramic output capacitors as small as 1µF, but 2.2µF to 10µF is recommended for best transient response. Use X5R or X7R ceramic capacitors with low ESR for optimal performance. The capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the output pin. For applications with large load transients, larger capacitors or additional bulk capacitance may be needed.

Use 2.2µF to 10µF ceramic capacitor; place close to output pin; X5R/X7R recommended.

How does dropout voltage affect performance?

Dropout voltage is the minimum input-output voltage differential required for the LDO to maintain regulation. The LSP6206 has a dropout voltage of 200mV at 300mA, meaning VIN must be at least 200mV higher than VOUT at full load. As the input-output differential approaches dropout, PSRR and transient response degrade. For best performance, maintain at least 500mV of headroom.

Maintain at least 500mV headroom for best performance; consider dropout at max current.

Can I use LSP6206 in battery-powered applications?

Yes, the LSP6206 is well-suited for battery-powered applications due to its low quiescent current of only 50µA. This minimizes battery drain during light load or standby conditions. The device maintains good regulation even as the battery voltage drops toward the output voltage. For Li-ion battery applications (3.0V to 4.2V), the LSP6206 can provide a regulated 2.5V or 3.3V output efficiently.

Excellent for battery apps due to low IQ; calculate battery life based on duty cycle.

What is the noise spectrum of LSP6206?

The LSP6206 features excellent noise performance across the frequency spectrum. The integrated noise from 10Hz to 100kHz is only 6µVRMS. At low frequencies (10-100Hz), noise is dominated by 1/f noise and is approximately 2µV/√Hz. At mid frequencies (1-10kHz), noise is flat at about 0.5µV/√Hz. This low, flat noise spectrum makes the LSP6206 ideal for powering precision analog circuits and data converters.

Low noise across spectrum makes it ideal for precision analog and data converter applications.
