Electronicon DC-link capacitors are designed for long operational lifetime under rated conditions. Standard lifetime ratings range from 50,000 to 100,000 hours at rated voltage and maximum hot spot temperature (typically 70C to 85C). Using the Arrhenius equation, lifetime approximately doubles for every 10C decrease in operating temperature.

DC-link capacitance calculation depends on several factors: 1) Allowable voltage ripple - typically 5-10% of DC bus voltage, 2) DC bus voltage level, 3) Load current and switching frequency, 4) Acceptable ripple current in the capacitor. The basic formula is C = I / (2 x f x deltaV).
