Cincon AC-DC Power Modules

Cincon offers two package types for AC-DC modules: Encapsulated modules feature a sealed plastic or epoxy case that provides environmental protection, better thermal management through conduction cooling, and enhanced safety isolation. They are ideal for harsh environments, outdoor applications, and medical equipment. Open frame modules expose the components for convection cooling, are lighter and less expensive, but require protection from dust, moisture, and touch. They are suitable for indoor equipment with adequate enclosure protection. Both types offer the same electrical performance and safety certifications. Choose encapsulated for harsh environments or when conduction cooling is needed. Choose open frame for cost-sensitive indoor applications with proper enclosure.

Cincon AC-DC modules are designed as complete solutions with minimal external components required. For basic operation: Input fuse recommended for safety protection

Input capacitor (typically included in module). For improved performance: External EMI filter may be needed to meet Class B emissions in some applications

Output capacitors for additional ripple filtering if required. The modules include internal rectification, filtering, switching controller, transformer, and feedback circuitry. For medical applications, additional isolation components may be required depending on the system architecture. Refer to the application notes for specific external component recommendations for your application requirements.

CB certificate for international recognition. All certifications are current and modules are tested to latest standards versions. The certifications cover the module as a component, simplifying end-product certification. For medical applications, select models with 2xMOPP (Means of Patient Protection) isolation. Thermal management is critical for AC-DC module reliability. Cincon modules are rated for operation up to +70°C or +85°C ambient depending on model. Key thermal considerations: Encapsulated modules rely on conduction cooling - mount on metal surface or heatsink

Open frame modules use convection cooling - ensure adequate airflow

Derating may be required at high ambient temperatures. For thermal design: Calculate power dissipation: Pd = Pin - Pout = Pout × (1/η - 1)

Ensure junction temperatures stay within ratings

Provide adequate copper area or heatsinking

Cincon AC-DC modules do not support direct parallel connection for current sharing. The modules lack active current sharing circuitry, so paralleling outputs will result in uneven load distribution. For applications requiring more power than a single module provides: Use a single higher power module from the range (up to 30W available)

Use multiple modules powering separate loads or subsystems

For redundancy applications, use OR-ing diodes to combine outputs (each module must handle full load). When designing with multiple modules, consider: Synchronized startup to avoid inrush current issues
