CS1232
CS1232 24-bit sigma-delta ADC with SPI interface, PGA up to 128x, 1280SPS max data rate, low power.
Product Overview
Description
The CS1232 is a high-speed 24-bit sigma-delta ADC featuring SPI interface for faster communication. It provides the same excellent precision as the CS1231 with higher maximum data rates up to 1280SPS.
The integrated PGA offers gains from 1x to 128x, enabling direct connection to a wide range of sensors. With low noise performance and excellent linearity, the CS1232 is ideal for industrial control and data acquisition systems.
The SPI interface supports clock rates up to 5MHz, allowing fast register access and data readout. Power-down mode reduces current consumption to less than 1uA for battery-powered applications.

FAE Expert Insights
"The CS1232 is ideal for applications requiring faster data rates than the I2C-based CS1231 can provide. The SPI interface at 5MHz allows much faster register configuration and data readout, which is important in multi-channel systems. I've used this ADC in industrial control systems where 640SPS or 1280SPS rates are needed for faster loop response. The slightly higher noise compared to CS1231 is a reasonable trade-off for the speed. The power-down mode is useful for battery-powered data loggers. Overall, choose CS1232 when you need SPI interface or higher data rates; choose CS1231 for lowest noise or I2C preference."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum SPI clock rate?
The CS1232 supports SPI clock rates up to 5MHz in fast mode. At this rate, a complete 24-bit conversion can be read in approximately 5 microseconds. However, consider the ADC conversion time - at 1280SPS, a new conversion is available every 781 microseconds. Therefore, SPI speed is typically not the limiting factor for overall throughput. For multi-ADC systems sharing the same SPI bus, the 5MHz clock rate allows efficient time-division multiplexing. Ensure proper PCB layout with short SPI traces and termination resistors if needed for signal integrity at high clock rates.
5MHz SPI provides fast readout; conversion time is typically the limiting factor.
