FAE Expert Insights
"The AU7140 is a great choice for IoT applications requiring Bluetooth connectivity. I've used it in several smart home products with excellent results. The integrated BLE stack saves significant development time compared to discrete solutions. The adaptive frequency hopping works well in environments with WiFi interference. Power consumption is competitive with leading BLE solutions - we achieved over 1 year battery life on a coin cell in a sensor application. The multi-protocol support is valuable for products that may need Zigbee in the future. Overall, a cost-effective BLE solution with good performance."

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BLE stack included?
Yes, the AU7140 includes a qualified Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 stack: (1) Link layer - handles packet formatting and timing; (2) Security manager - handles pairing and encryption; (3) Attribute protocol - for GATT services; (4) GAP - for device discovery and connection; (5) Sample profiles - heart rate, battery service, etc. The stack is royalty-free and runs on the integrated ARM Cortex-M0 processor. For custom applications, you can implement proprietary protocols using the raw packet mode. Contact LiTong for stack documentation and sample code.
Qualified BLE 5.0 stack included royalty-free.
What is the power consumption?
The AU7140 achieves excellent power efficiency: (1) TX at 0dBm - 5.3mA; (2) TX at +8dBm - 9.5mA; (3) RX - 5.4mA; (4) Sleep mode - 1.5μA with RAM retention; (5) Deep sleep - 0.4μA. For a typical BLE sensor application advertising every second and transmitting data every 10 seconds, average current is approximately 15-20μA. This enables multi-year battery life on coin cells. The device includes DC-DC converter support for improved efficiency at higher voltages.
Ultra-low power suitable for coin cell battery operation.
How do I get BLE certification?
The AU7140 is Bluetooth 5.0 qualified, which simplifies your product certification: (1) The RF PHY is pre-qualified - no RF testing required; (2) The protocol stack is pre-qualified - no link layer testing; (3) You only need to qualify your GATT services and profiles; (4) Use the QDID (Qualified Design ID) from Aurasemi for your listing; (5) Pay the Bluetooth SIG listing fee. Contact LiTong for the QDID and certification guidance. The process typically takes 2-4 weeks. For proprietary protocols using the raw mode, no Bluetooth certification is required.
Pre-qualified module simplifies certification; only qualify your services.
What is the maximum BLE data rate?
The AU7140 supports all Bluetooth 5.0 data rates: (1) 1Mbps - standard BLE rate, best range; (2) 2Mbps - high speed mode, 2x throughput with slightly reduced range; (3) 500kbps - coded PHY with 2x coding gain, better range than 1Mbps; (4) 125kbps - coded PHY with 8x coding gain, maximum range mode. The 2Mbps mode is ideal for firmware updates and bulk data transfer. The coded PHY modes (500kbps/125kbps) provide 2x and 4x range improvement respectively compared to 1Mbps, making them ideal for long-range IoT applications.
Use 2Mbps for speed, 125kbps coded PHY for maximum range.
Can I use the AU7140 for Zigbee applications?
Yes, the AU7140 supports IEEE 802.15.4 which is the foundation for Zigbee and Thread protocols: (1) Raw 802.15.4 mode - access to MAC layer for custom protocol implementation; (2) Zigbee PRO stack - available through third-party vendors; (3) Thread stack - available for border router and end device applications; (4) Proprietary protocols - implement your own protocol using the 802.15.4 PHY. The device includes CSMA-CA support, ACK handling, and security features required for 802.15.4. Contact LiTong FAE for Zigbee/Thread stack recommendations and integration support.
