AEC-Q100 qualified 500mA high-current LDO with 5V fixed output for power-hungry automotive applications.

Product Overview

Description

The SL7210 is a high-current automotive LDO designed for applications requiring more power than the standard 300mA devices. With 500mA output capability, it can power multiple MCUs, sensors, and communication modules from a single regulator.

The device maintains the same 45V maximum input voltage and comprehensive protection features as the SL7205, while delivering higher current. The low dropout voltage of 300mV at 500mA ensures efficient operation.

Available in thermally enhanced TO-252 and TO-263 packages to handle the increased power dissipation. AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for automotive reliability.

"The SL7210 is my recommendation when customers need more than 300mA from their automotive LDO. The 500mA capability handles multiple loads without needing separate regulators. The larger packages (TO-252/TO-263) provide better heat sinking for the higher power dissipation. I have used this part in gateway modules and body control modules where multiple MCUs and communication transceivers need power. The protection features and wide temperature range make it reliable for automotive use."

Frequently Asked Questions

How much PCB copper area is needed for SL7210?

For SL7210 at maximum current: TO-252 package needs minimum 1 square inch copper area for heat sinking. TO-263 package with tab can handle higher dissipation with 0.5 square inches. Calculate thermal requirements: P = (Vin - Vout) × Iout. At 14V input, 5V output, 500mA: P = 4.5W. Ensure maximum junction temperature stays below 125°C at your ambient temperature.

Provide adequate copper area based on power dissipation calculations. Use thermal vias for better heat spreading.
