SIM3300
Compact 6-axis IMU combining accelerometer and gyroscope with sensor fusion support
Product Overview
Description
The SIM3300 is a compact 6-axis IMU that combines a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope in a single package. This integration simplifies design, reduces board space, and ensures optimal sensor alignment for accurate motion tracking.
The accelerometer features selectable ranges of ±2g, ±4g, or ±8g with 14-bit resolution and 150μg/√Hz noise. The gyroscope offers ranges from ±125°/s to ±2000°/s with 16-bit resolution and 0.03°/s/√Hz noise. Both sensors share a common digital interface.
The device supports I2C and SPI interfaces and includes a dedicated sensor fusion processor that outputs quaternion or Euler angle data. Low power consumption (3mA combined) makes it ideal for battery-powered devices. Available in a compact LGA-24 package.

FAE Expert Insights
"The SIM3300 is an excellent integrated IMU that I have used in numerous projects. The key advantage is the pre-calibrated alignment between accelerometer and gyroscope - this saves significant development time and ensures accurate sensor fusion results. The integrated fusion processor is a game-changer - it outputs quaternion data directly, offloading processing from the host MCU. The power consumption of 3mA is impressive for a 6-axis solution with fusion processing. I particularly like the flexible measurement ranges - you can optimize for different applications without changing hardware. One implementation tip: the sensor fusion works best when the device is stationary during initialization. For drone applications, this IMU provides excellent stability for flight control. The compact package enables integration in space-constrained designs. Overall, a highly integrated solution that accelerates time to market."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of using an IMU over separate sensors?
An IMU integrates accelerometer and gyroscope in a single package with pre-calibrated alignment. This ensures optimal sensor fusion performance, reduces board space, simplifies design, and accelerates time to market. The SIM3300 also includes a dedicated fusion processor.
Use IMU for applications requiring both sensors; simplifies design and ensures optimal alignment.
Does SIM3300 include sensor fusion processing?
Yes, SIM3300 includes a dedicated sensor fusion processor that outputs quaternion or Euler angle data directly. This offloads processing from the host MCU and ensures consistent fusion performance. The fusion algorithm runs at 1kHz for smooth orientation tracking.
Built-in fusion simplifies software development; use direct output or implement custom fusion if needed.
What output formats does SIM3300 support?
SIM3300 outputs raw accelerometer and gyroscope data, as well as fused orientation data in quaternion or Euler angle formats. The fusion processor handles the complex math, providing easy-to-use orientation data for your application.
Use fused output for orientation tracking; raw data for custom processing or debugging.
Is SIM3300 suitable for drone flight control?
Yes, SIM3300 is excellent for drone flight control applications. The 6-axis measurement provides complete attitude information, and the built-in fusion processor delivers accurate orientation data for stabilization algorithms. The low latency and high update rate are ideal for flight control.
Excellent choice for drones; implement proper vibration isolation for best results.
What is the power consumption of SIM3300?
SIM3300 consumes 3mA for the complete 6-axis solution with fusion processing. This is highly efficient compared to using separate sensors. The device also supports sleep modes for power saving when motion sensing is not required.
Low power consumption suitable for battery-powered devices; use sleep modes to extend battery life.
