"The NAFE13388 is a game-changer for industrial analog input designs. The software-configurable inputs eliminate the need for different analog input modules - one device handles voltage, current, RTD, and thermocouple inputs. The integrated excitation sources significantly reduce BOM cost and board space. I've implemented this in PLC designs where the universal input capability allows customers to use the same hardware for different sensor types. The 24-bit ADC provides excellent resolution for precision measurements. The diagnostic features enable predictive maintenance, which is increasingly important in Industry 4.0 applications."

What is the recommended PCB layout for NAFE13388?

Key layout considerations: Separate analog and digital ground planes with single-point connection, place decoupling capacitors close to power pins, keep high-voltage input traces away from sensitive analog signals, use guard rings around high-impedance inputs, and ensure proper thermal vias under the exposed pad. Reference designs are available from NXP.
