MP44019
Cost-effective PSR flyback controller with integrated 650V MOSFET for adapters and chargers up to 35W.
Product Overview
Description
The MP44019 integrates a PSR flyback controller with 650V power MOSFET in a compact package, eliminating the need for optocoupler and secondary reference. This reduces BOM cost and improves reliability for adapter and charger applications up to 35W.
The device operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with frequency modulation for optimized efficiency across load range. The integrated cable compensation maintains accurate output voltage at the load end despite cable drops. The burst mode operation minimizes standby power to <30mW.
Protection features include over-voltage protection, short-circuit protection, over-load protection, and over-temperature protection. The MP44019 is ideal for smartphone chargers, small appliance power supplies, and auxiliary power applications.

FAE Expert Insights
"The MP44019 is my go-to recommendation for cost-sensitive adapter designs up to 35W. The integrated MOSFET and PSR control eliminates the optocoupler, reducing BOM cost by $0.30-0.50. I've used this in numerous charger designs with excellent reliability. The cable compensation is particularly useful for maintaining 5V at the phone end with long cables. Standby power is excellent at <30mW, meeting all energy efficiency standards. The efficiency is good for PSR - typically 85-88% at full load. For simple, cost-effective adapters, this controller is hard to beat."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PSR and SSR flyback?
PSR (Primary-Side Regulation) senses output voltage through auxiliary winding during flyback period, eliminating optocoupler. Benefits: Lower cost, higher reliability, simpler design. Trade-off: Regulation accuracy ±3-5%. SSR (Secondary-Side Regulation) uses optocoupler feedback for tighter regulation (±1%). Benefits: Better accuracy and cross-regulation. Trade-off: Higher cost due to optocoupler. Choose PSR for cost-sensitive designs under 35W. Choose SSR for higher power or tight regulation requirements.
Use MP44019 (PSR) for cost-sensitive adapters under 35W. Use SSR solutions for higher power or tight regulation needs.
