MCP1703
250mA LDO with ultra-low 2.0μA quiescent current, high PSRR, and stable with ceramic capacitors for battery applications.
Product Overview
Description
The MCP1703 is a CMOS low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulator delivering up to 250mA output current with exceptionally low quiescent current of just 2.0μA. It's ideal for extending battery life in portable applications.
The device is stable with ceramic output capacitors as small as 1.0μF, reducing board space and cost. High power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 70dB at 1kHz minimizes noise coupling.
Available in fixed output voltages from 1.2V to 5.0V and adjustable versions, the MCP1703 supports a wide range of application requirements.

FAE Expert Insights
"The MCP1703 is my top recommendation for battery-powered designs where every microamp counts. The 2μA quiescent current is exceptional - in a system drawing 10μA average, the regulator only adds 20% overhead. The ceramic cap stability eliminates the need for expensive tantalum capacitors. I've used it in wireless sensor nodes that run for years on coin cell batteries."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the dropout voltage of MCP1703?
The MCP1703 dropout voltage is typically 625mV at 250mA load, 400mV at 150mA, and 200mV at 50mA. At light loads (<1mA), dropout can be as low as 50mV. For minimum dropout operation, keep load current low or consider the MCP1711 with lower dropout voltage.
Ensure input voltage exceeds output by at least 1V for reliable regulation at full load.
