MCP3202
Dual-channel 12-bit SAR ADC with SPI interface, 100ksps sampling rate, and low power consumption for embedded systems.
Product Overview
Description
The MCP3202 is a 12-bit successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter with two input channels. It features a SPI-compatible serial interface and sampling rates up to 100ksps.
With low power consumption of 400μA active and 500nA standby, the MCP3202 is ideal for battery-powered data acquisition systems. The device operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply.
The differential input capability allows measurement of differential signals or can be configured for single-ended operation. Internal sample-and-hold captures the input signal for conversion.

FAE Expert Insights
"The MCP3202 provides excellent value for 12-bit data acquisition. The dual channels are useful for differential measurements or monitoring two sensors. The SPI interface is easy to implement with any microcontroller. I typically recommend it for applications requiring 10-12 bit resolution at moderate sampling rates. The low standby current is great for intermittent sampling applications."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum SPI clock speed for MCP3202?
The MCP3202 supports SPI clock rates up to 1.6MHz at 5V operation, or 0.8MHz at 2.7V. At 5V with 1.6MHz clock, a complete 12-bit conversion takes approximately 17 clock cycles, allowing the maximum 100ksps sampling rate. Ensure your microcontroller SPI can support these clock rates for maximum throughput.
Use 1.6MHz SPI clock at 5V for maximum 100ksps rate; reduce clock at lower voltages.
