Dual channel load switch with independent enable controls for multi-rail power distribution

Product Overview

Description

The LP5242 is a dual channel load switch that integrates two independent load switches in a single package. Each channel can support up to 1.5A continuous current with 70mΩ on-resistance, making it ideal for multi-rail power distribution applications.

The device operates from 1.2V to 5.5V input voltage range. Each channel has its own active-high enable pin, allowing independent control of two power rails. The independent control is useful for power sequencing and selective power gating in complex systems.

The LP5242 includes thermal shutdown protection for each channel and reverse current blocking. The fast turn-on time of 80μs and turn-off time of 8μs enable quick power switching. Available in a compact SOT-23-6 package, it is perfect for space-constrained designs requiring dual power switches.

"The LP5242 is an excellent solution when you need two independent load switches but board space is limited. The dual channel integration saves significant board area compared to using two single switches. I've used this in designs powering dual memory banks, separate sensor subsystems, and dual peripheral interfaces. The 70mΩ on-resistance is reasonable for the dual-channel capability. The independent enables are useful for power sequencing - you can turn on different rails in the correct order. One implementation tip: the two channels share a common input pin, so both rails must be powered from the same voltage source. If you need switches for different voltage rails, use two LP5240s instead. The thermal protection is per-channel, so a fault on one channel doesn't affect the other. The SOT-23-6 package is compact but manageable for hand soldering. Overall, a space-saving dual load switch solution."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the two channels of LP5242 be used independently?

Yes, the two channels have independent enable pins and can be controlled separately. However, both channels share a common input voltage pin, so they must be powered from the same voltage rail. The outputs are independent and can power different loads.

Independent control possible; both channels share common input voltage.
