Snubber 0.47uF/1200V
Jianghai IGBT snubber capacitor, 0.47uF/1200V, low inductance design, suppresses switching spikes.
Product Overview
Description
Jianghai snubber capacitors are specially designed for IGBT switching protection, using metallized polypropylene film and special low-inductance structure to effectively suppress voltage spikes during IGBT turn-off, protecting power devices.
Product rated voltage 1200VDC, nominal capacitance 0.47uF, dv/dt up to 3000V/us, ESL less than 10nH. Uses flat or cylindrical package, can be installed directly near IGBT modules to minimize loop inductance. Operating temperature range -40C to +105C.
Widely used in industrial inverters, photovoltaic inverters, electric vehicle drives, welding machines, and other high-power power electronic equipment. Combined with resistors to form RC snubber circuits, can effectively suppress turn-off overvoltage, reduce EMI, and improve system reliability.

FAE Expert Insights
"Snubber capacitors are crucial for IGBT protection. 0.47uF/1200V is a common specification for 1200V IGBT modules. Key is installation position should be as close to IGBT as possible, shorter leads are better. Recommend using in series with 10-22Ohm non-inductive resistors. Note to select capacitors with sufficiently high dv/dt to handle fast switching."
High dv/dt 3000V/us, low ESL less than 10nH, effectively suppresses IGBT spikes

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I select the right snubber capacitor value for my IGBT application?
Snubber capacitor selection depends on several factors: 1) IGBT switching characteristics - faster switching requires lower ESL; 2) Circuit stray inductance - higher inductance requires larger capacitance; 3) Energy to be absorbed - calculate from L_stray x I^2. For typical 1200V IGBT modules (100-300A), 0.47uF is commonly used. The capacitor must have dv/dt rating exceeding the IGBT's dV/dt (typically 3000-5000V/us). Always include a series resistor (10-22 Ohm) to damp oscillations and limit discharge current.

Why is low ESL critical for snubber capacitors?
ESL (Equivalent Series Inductance) is critical in snubber applications because: 1) High ESL limits the capacitor's ability to absorb fast transients - the inductance opposes rapid current change (di/dt); 2) ESL creates additional voltage spikes (V = L x di/dt) that add to the IGBT turn-off spike; 3) ESL causes ringing and oscillations in the snubber circuit itself. Jianghai snubber capacitors have ESL less than 10nH achieved through special internal construction and flat terminal design. Mounting with short, wide connections is equally important.
Always minimize loop inductance in snubber circuits. Use short, wide traces or busbars, and place capacitor as close as possible to IGBT terminals.
